Microsoft-Google About To Spar Over YouTube App For Windows Phone 7?

Posted by Brad Wasson in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 06:30 PM

http://gizmodo.com/#!5788172/micros...windows-phone-7

"Microsoft is getting involved with the European Union's antitrust investigation regarding Google, mostly regarding the lack of information Google provides search engine competitors for indexing YouTube videos. But even more interesting is Microsoft's claim that their app is lacking because Google won't provide the Windows Phone 7 team with the necessary data for the YouTube app that the versions on Android and iOS have."

Ok, here's a little potential mudslinging between industry behemoths to whet your appetite. It seems that Google may have enabled its own Android phones, and the iPhone, to access YouTube metadata in a different way than Microsoft has access to. The net result, reportedly, is a more advanced set of YouTube features for Android and iPhone smarthphones than Microsoft would be able to produce. These features would include the ability to search for video categories, find favorites, see ratings, and more. In short, Windows Phone 7 users would have a less feature-rich experience than at least some other platforms. Is this fair? Is Google playing nice here, or is it protecting it's own intellectual property? Microsoft doesn't think this is very fair and is, in fact, getting involved with the European Union's antitrust investigation regarding Google.

Win a Lenovo A70z All-in-One Desktop Computer: Enter Now!

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Events" @ 11:30 AM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhW13yE24Xw

I'm giving away a Lenovo A70z worth $729 USD, courtesy of Lenovo. It's a great all-in-one desktop computer that I did an unboxing and first impressions video of, and you can win it in a random drawing. You'll be winning a brand new A70z, still in the box, not the one I used in the video. I'll be selecting a random comment posted on this YouTube video telling me why this A70z is better than the computer you currently have, or how you'd use the A70z as a secondary computer. To win, that person has to be subscribed to my YouTube channel and has to have marked the video as a favourite. I forgot to mention that you should also Like the video, so that's not part of the official rules - but doing so would be the nice thing to do. :-)

The contest starts today, and runs until midnight on the 12th (GMT -7) - I'll be randomly selecting the winner on the morning of the 13th. One entry per person, and the winner must be located in the USA or Canada. Don't forget too that this is part of a much bigger giveaway ($15,000+) so be sure to check out all the of the other sites that are giving away their own A70z's. Good luck everyone!

Want an HD2 Early? Hit Up Walmart and Ask Real Nice

Posted by Jon Westfall in "HTC Windows Phones" @ 03:30 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/21/...ed-early-video/

"T-Mobile's not officially selling its world-beating HD2 until Wednesday, but if you've a Walmart nearby and hankering to get HTC's latest and greatest a few days early, it might be worth a trip out. JDMiPhoner managed to score one from his local Wally World a full four days early, and he's been kind enough to unbox it, boot it up and give us a few first impressions on video."

So I guess I'm happy I live in a country where money talks and official release dates walk, as evidenced by this lucky man's ability to pick up an HD2 ahead of the March 24 official drop date. He has the first "official" consumer unboxing, so feel free to take a look and further solidify your HD2 want or justify your HD2 "skip" status!
