SkyFire Drops Windows Mobile Support

Posted by Ed Hansberry in "Windows Phone Software" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.skyfire.com/press/blog/72-retirement

If you have been using SkyFire on your Windows Mobile device, which gives a pretty good browsing experience, especially compared to the built in browser, your days of enjoyment are numbered.

?

"Skyfire 2.0 is the world’s first hybrid browser, using the best of the device’s native browser, and adding a cloud "booster engine" for extra features like video and social networking. It is our flagship go-forward product, as we've reported publicly for months, since our Android launch. With that in mind, we are announcing that we will complete the phase out of our legacy v1.0 product on Windows Mobile and Symbian on December 31st, 2010 for remaining countries."

SkyFire 1.1 Browser Released

Posted by Ed Hansberry in "Pocket PC Software" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.skyfire.com/blog/2009/08...11013052-winmo/

"We are excited about our Skyfire 1.1 version. This release focuses on performance improvements for both platforms and specific improvements related to Symbian scrolling and zooming. In addition, we've improved the reconnect experience and mobile website browsing."

SkyFire 1.1 has a number of improvements over the initial 1.0 release. Some of the biggies are:

  • Improved page load times. For sites that take a long time to load, we updated our algorithm to bring you the content much quicker.
  • Improved reconnect. Skyfire will show clearly when you can start interacting with the web page in case it previously timed out and disconnected (to save battery life).
  • WML support. If you are browsing to mobile sites that use the old mobile WML markup, you can now view the content.

There are more features and fixes listed at the link below. If you want to download it directly to your device, go to m.skyfire.com

"For a limited time only Skyfire, the only flash-enabled web browser for the Windows Mobile platform, is opening up to all comers. The browser, which now supports Silverlight, will now be accessible to all comers who use the special code 'Michael8', meaning Skyfire users can now watch all the streaming video from the Olympics. Skyfire says they did this to commemorate Michael Phelps’s monumental accomplishment of winning 8 Gold metals in a single Olympic games."

If you have been waiting to test out the new Skyfire web browser but have not been able to get into the Beta testing, now is your chance. From now until August 30th 2008 Skyfire will be available to all users who use the special code "Michael8". For the first time ever, you can watch any web video, listen to any web music, stay connected on any social network and browse whatever you want. Skyfire gives you speedy page loads, full audio, video, images, dynamic Flash content, advanced Ajax, Java and more – just like your PC."

I received an email a few days ago informing me that Skyfire Beta v0.6 Internet browser is now available for download. According to an email, I would receive a SMS message within 24 hours with a link to download the newest browser. Unfortunately that still has not happened yet. For those of you that are a part of the Skyfire Beta, I would be on the lookout for this new version! If you're not a part of the current Beta and are interested in being a part of the second Beta program for the Skyfire browser you can do so by registering here.
