Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X2a Appears, Still Delayed

So, it appears that the XPERIA X2 has been re-badged as the XPERIA X2a for North America, though less newsworthy is the fact that it's still "coming soon". Considering that Sony Ericsson had originally planned to release the X2 in Q4, then seemed pretty sure of itself that it would be ready for the first week of January, only to break that promise, we're starting to wonder if the X2 is ever going to show at all. Yes, folks, at this point in time, the X2 seems destined to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor: delay after delay until the competition blows it away.

Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X2 Delayed

"Over the last couple of weeks there has been a few, OK more than a few rumours that the X2 is going to be delayed until January and I'm sure it will not come as a surprise when we say that these are well founded. The software worked fine but when we started integrating it with some of the network specific apps it threw up a few issues which we're working to fix."

Stop the presses. The launch of the XPERIA X2 has been delayed. Following the infamous delays that marred the launch of the XPERIA X1, we were pleasantly surprised by Sony Ericsson's optimism that the X2 would be good to go for an early Q4 release. Fast-forward to today, late Q4, and the X2 is nowhere to be seen. Well, the company now seems to think that the Windows Mobile 6.5 device will definitely be ready for the first week of January. As for us, we're not holding our breath.

January-Bound XPERIA X2 to Cost An Arm and Leg?

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC News" @ 08:45 AM

When Sony Ericsson unveiled the XPERIA X2 earlier this month, the company seemed pretty certain that it would arrive sometime in the fourth quarter. Expansys UK, on the other hand, has a different idea. It's confidently tagged the X2 with a release date of January 11, 2010, at £604.99, which translates to a whopping $1000 on the other side of the pond. Sure enough, goods are priced a little differently in the UK, but if you consider that the Touch Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 are priced at £374.99 and £489.99 respectively, the X2's asking price is a fair bit to munch on. Now, we're not quite sure if Sony Ericsson's pricing strategy is set in stone, but either way, we wish the folks there all the best in getting this beast in the hands of consumers. Surely they can do better with it than they did with the X1, right? Right?

Is This The X2?

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 11:30 AM

"A tipster tells us that the device you're looking at here is Sony Ericsson's codename "Vulcan" -- better known as the X2 -- which would presumably replace the X1 at some point in the next few days, weeks, months, or years. Though the picture's small, you can clearly make out the X Panel button in the lower left of the phone's front and a Windows key in the upper left of the keyboard..."

Hmm, Engadget seems to have a line on a possible successor to the X1. Time will tell with more details, so for now file this under "pretty picture" and "nice rumor".
