Xperia X2 Specs?

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 12:00 PM

http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=4790

"If these specs are accurate the device would seem to be rather feature pack and correct much of the issues people had with the original Xperia. In fact, one could say the only thing holding back this device is its rather 90's looks."

Xperia rumors, gossip, and supposed shots and specs abound the last few days. Anyone looking to help out Sony Ericsson's financial situation by purchasing one of these if/when/however it becomes available?

Is This The X2?

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 11:30 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/03/...son-x2-spotted/

"A tipster tells us that the device you're looking at here is Sony Ericsson's codename "Vulcan" -- better known as the X2 -- which would presumably replace the X1 at some point in the next few days, weeks, months, or years. Though the picture's small, you can clearly make out the X Panel button in the lower left of the phone's front and a Windows key in the upper left of the keyboard..."

Hmm, Engadget seems to have a line on a possible successor to the X1. Time will tell with more details, so for now file this under "pretty picture" and "nice rumor".

Sony Ericsson Switching from HTC to Mobinnova?

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC News" @ 08:45 PM

http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20081223PB200.html

"Sony Ericsson plans to outsource its second Windows Mobile-based smartphone to Taiwan-based Mobinnova, a handset maker under Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), instead of cooperating with its current production partner High Tech Computer (HTC), according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report."

For better or worse, Sony Ericsson is said to be switching from HTC to Mobinnova for its Windows Mobile devices. Perhaps the X1, which has hardly been the success story it could have been, has forced Sony Ericsson to look elsewhere.

Spb Infiltrates the Xperia X1

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Software" @ 03:15 PM

http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/ent...eria_x1.html?en

"Spb Software, the world's leading maker of Windows Mobile applications, develops a user interface panel for Xperia™ X1. As part of the strategic partnership between Sony Ericsson and Spb Software, Spb has put forth a top-notch, Spb Mobile Shell-based solution that compliments the X1 in both style and speed. Taking advantage of the smartphone’s unique panel technology, impressive hardware and dynamic wide VGA touchscreen, this custom version of Spb Mobile Shell is optimized for the new Xperia, and comes with all X1 devices as a free download... Spb Mobile Shell is an application that improves the innate Windows Mobile user interface, making it more direct, logical, and slick. The first version of software came out in February 2007 and quickly gained recognition among end-users and media. Spb Mobile Shell fulfills the highest requirements of in-ROM software, paying a great deal of respect to criteria such as ROM, RAM, performance, battery life, and stability. Customized and improved menus of Windows Mobile devices are achieved without any damage to built-in system features or other third-party software."

Spb Software House: if it's not creating great software for general consumption, it's forging partnerships with some big names. For example, Sony Ericsson; the two companies have worked together to offer Xperia X1 users a treat. If you're one such user, check out the custom version of Spb Mobile Shell that's available for download. Shots after the break.

Sony Ericsson Preparing Launch of Xperia X1

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 05:30 AM

http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/cor...xfinal-20080910

"Sony Ericsson today announces 30 September 2008 as the official launch date for the highly anticipated Xperia™ X1 – initially available to consumers in the UK, Germany and Sweden. The handset will be available in other markets across Europe, Asia and Latin America throughout Q4 2008."

Well, it's official. Just three weeks to go before the X1 launches in the UK, Germany, and Sweden. For thirty-two other countries around the world (listed after the break), the X1 will launch in Q4. For North America, Australia, China, and Russia, Sony Ericsson is only willing to go so far as to suggest that announcements will be made in the coming months. Let's just hope that doesn't mean sometime in 2009; otherwise, to HTC's delight, the Touch Pro may soon be flying off shelves.

Battle of the Keyboards: XPERIA X1 vs. HTC Touch Pro

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 08:15 AM

"MobileBurn scored an early look at the Touch Pro -- which won't be available at retail for a month or three yet -- and came away impressed with the all-important keyboard, saying that it was "much more" usable than the QWERTY found on Sony Ericsson's rival superphone. Closed, it's said to be virtually indistinguishable from the Touch Diamond (which we'd say is a good thing) other than being a bit thicker to accomodate they keyboard and picking up a matte-finish rear cover."

Two top-notch devices: the HTC Touch Pro and the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1. Both have specs that would make any geek weak at the knees, but when it comes to the keyboard, word on the street is that there's simply no contest - the Touch Pro comes out on top. Check out what MobileBurn has to say, and do take a look at the pics. Engadget has plenty of X1 pics for your perusal, too.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 Reviewed

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 06:15 AM

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008...eria-x1-review/

"Now that we've had some time to spend with the XPERIA X1, we're going to break down the various features and give you our in-depth review. We'll continue to update this post as we use the device more, but it doesn't a rocket scientist to understand what's at hand - a brand new Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1!"

A couple of days ago, BGR posted a gallery of the upcoming XPERIA X1. Today, they're offering us a review. It's brief, but still a work in progress. They'll be adding more to it as the days go by, so be sure to keep an eye out for updates.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 Hands-On

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 09:32 AM

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008...ia-x1-hands-on/

"If you asked the general public what the #1 Windows Mobile device they’re waiting for, you’d probably lose count of how many times people said XPERIA. Sony Ericcson [sic], for the first time, has entered into the Windows Mobile market, and our first impressions? Wow. You really couldn’t throw better specs on this thing if you tried. From your local flavor of UMTS/HSDPA, to an optical joystick (fire!), to a whopping 800×480 VGA screen, and even cool funky notification lights, this thing is packed! Let’s not forget the physical design of the device as it’s one of the coolest and hippest-looking phones we’ve seen in a very long time. Since our unit isn’t a production version, the software runs a little slow. Even so, in most tasks, it performs very well. We can’t wait to play with a final production unit. It has us that impressed! One major flaw, though… Do you really want to know? The keyboard!"

It's been an age since Sony Ericsson announced the XPERIA X1. And yes, believe it or not, it is actually coming, although not for a few more months. So, while you wait, head on over to BGR for some eye-candy posted by the Boy Genius himself. 800 x 480 sure is tasty.
