Pharos Offering Free Traveler 137 Swap-Out

Posted by Eriq Cook in "Windows Phone News" @ 12:30 AM

http://www.wmexperts.com/pharos-off...am-traveler-137

"Pharos is offering a free swap-out program for those who purchased the company's Windows Phone, the Traveler 137. Pharos will ship for free, replacement phones that will lack the power management issues and faulty power button issues the early production models developed."

After many complaints about faulty units, a Pharos spokesperson has announced a free replacement program to resolve faulty power button and battery meter issues. In addition to the free trade, Pharos will also upgrade units shipped with Windows Mobile 6.1 to 6.5.

The Traveler 137 was released in mid-2009 as Pharos' first 3G PND (Personal Navigation Device). While I have not owned a Pharos device, I have read praises about their customer service and this is a reflection of their commitment to keep their customers happy.

Have you used a Traveler 137? Let us know your experience!

Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Makes a Quiet Appearance at CES

Posted by Darius Wey in "Windows Phone News" @ 10:30 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/09/...y-very-quietly/

"Say, for a moment, that you're Microsoft and you're on the cusp of releasing a version of the much-maligned Windows Mobile 6.5 that actually made it touch-friendly for once -- but like all WinMo versions before it, you're relying on carriers and manufacturers to wage an inexcusably slow, arbitrary, incomplete upgrade campaign. Wouldn't you think that quietly burying its launch amongst a sea of more interesting (and less controversial) products might be a good idea?"

The folks at Engadget, in their quest to report the weird and wonderful at CES, discovered Windows Mobile 6.5.3 running on a TG01 and Traveler, which more or less confirms its existence. When it'll officially be released as an upgrade for said devices is anyone's guess. It is, after all, in the hands of the related manufacturers and carriers. But what's so great about v6.5.3, anyway? More touch-friendly adjustments throughout the UI. Less great is the fact that they're somewhat of an eyesore. One can only hope that's something that the much-anticipated Windows Mobile 7 will rectify.

Based on the numbering, you might think of the Traveler 117 as the entry unit to the series, but it includes an impressive array of features and a very sleek, professional design. What surprised me the most was the VGA screen and the substitution of a trackball for the 5-way navigation D-Pad!

Pharos Unveils New Traveler 117 and 127 Phones

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 07:34 AM

http://www.pharosgps.com/buzz/buzz_...eler117_127.pdf

"Pharos introduced two new GPS smartphones that offer full-featured navigation and lightning-fast 3.5G connectivity on an unlocked, Windows Mobile handset. The Pharos Traveler 117 and 127 are Pharos' first phones to include Pharos Smart Navigator, a unique hybrid navigation product that is the first to combine navigation software + location services on a Windows Mobile device"

I've long been a fan of Pharos Ostia GPS package, and their new hybrid phones that include the Smart Navigator component look pretty nice. Pharos has been at this phone thing now for a year or two - anyone out there have one or have an opinion on one?
