Garmin And ASUSTek Divorced

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "Asus Windows Phones" @ 05:30 PM

http://garmin.blogs.com/pr/2010/10/...strategies.html

"Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN) and ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (TAIEX: 2357) today announced a strategic decision to alter their current co-branded business model for location-centric mobile handsets. The two companies will not introduce any new co-branded handset models going forward, but will continue to sell and support models that have already been introduced to the market."

That's corporate speak for: We haven't sold many units, and we're better off on our own. Although the Nuvi phones issued under the alliance will continue to get after-sales support from both companies, it looks like the co-branded version of the line has reached a dead end. Hence forth, the relationship between the two companies is no closer than any other hook-up Garmin has. Hit the link for the full press release.

Hands On With The Garmin-Asus Nuvifone M10

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Other Windows Phones" @ 03:00 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/14/...d-a50-hands-on/

"So, we had a few precious moments to play around with Garmin-Asus' latest Nuvifones here in lovely Barcelona today -- the M10 and A50, running on Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and Android 1.6, respectively -- and even better, we did so in the back of a black Mercedes expressly purposed for testing out the integrated turn-by-turn capabilities"

The Windows Mobile 6.5.3 powered Asus Nuvifone M10 (And it's Android 1.6 powered brother, the A50) got a bit of hand-time with Engadget in Barcelona. Check out their piece for more details and impressions on both phones. Personally I'm thinking both phones operating systems seem a bit dated though. Android 2.1 is running on some devices, and 6.5.3 seems way too long of a version number. Perhaps we'll a shorter Win Mo version number soon...
