Evernote Developer Blogs About Windows Phone

Posted by Nelson Ocampo in "Windows Phone Developer" @ 06:00 PM

http://blog.evernote.com/tech/2011/...d-evernote-wp7/

"Just as I was starting to realize that full-time management was not for me, and I began to explore doing another start-up, I got a call from Phil Libin, Evernote’s CEO. Would I like to join Evernote to create their WP7 Evernote client? Perfect timing – of course I would. Last week we released the first version of that client. This is the story of what worked, what didn’t work, what makes WP7 a great platform to develop for, and what some of the challenges were. I’ll also explore the opportunities being opened by the next release of WP7, codenamed Mango."

The blog goes on to cover many aspects of developing an application for Windows Phone 7, and gives some interesting insight.Positive points include:

  • The development environment is awesome.
  • C# and Silverlight are easy to work with.
  • Visual Studio is so good that it spoils developers.
  • Expression Blend is a wonderful design tool.
  • There is a strong tight knit community of developers.

Challenges include:

  • Lack of a Database
  • Platform Bugs
  • Hard to implement smooth scrolling

He then goes on about how he overcame some of the challenges. Lastly, he covers what excites him most about Mango, from a developer's perspective.

Official Evernote Client for Windows Phone 7 Released

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Windows Phone Software" @ 11:03 AM

http://blog.evernote.com/2011/06/16...hone-7-is-here/

"Evernote for Windows Phone 7 lets you save and find your ideas and memories any time, anywhere. As you would expect, it seamlessly syncs with every other version of Evernote you use, but there's so much more. In fact, this is the most feature-rich debut we've ever had. Not only is it packed with capabilities, but it's also beautiful-taking advantage of the innovative Windows Phone 7 Metro interface and its Pivot panels. And, as always, Evernote for Windows Phone 7 is free and available now from the App Hub."

Much love Evernote dev team, much love. I've been using Evernote at an ever-increasing pace over the past six months (after barely using at all for the first year), and the missing piece has been being able to use it on my Windows Phone. No more! Well, soon enough - I just checked and it's not available for me in Marketplace yet, but it should be soon. The Evernote team has created an app that utilizes unique assets to Windows Phone, such as the deep Bing integration. Premium subscribers will get to store their notes offline - that's a must-have feature for me - so I'll definitely be renewing my Evernote Premium subscription when it comes up next month. This is a big deal for the platform - Evernote is one of those services that, if there's no official app for it, some people simply won't consider that platform a viable option.

Evernote for Windows Phone 7 Is On The Way

Posted by Brad Wasson in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 09:00 PM

http://downloadsquad.switched.com/2...ch-this-winter/

"Evernote will have an application for Windows Phone 7 ready 'this winter', according to a post on the company's official blog. No additional details have been made public, but given the suggested time frame, Evernote for Windows Phone 7 should be ready in a couple of months at the latest."

You may want to place a note to yourself in Evernote on your PC as a reminder that a version of this very capable note-taking application will be available for Windows Phone 7 in the not too distant future. Evernote is supported on multiple platforms, so adding the Windows Phone 7 platform is not a great surprise, but will certainly be welcomed by many.

Evernote and Dial2Do - Two Of My Favorite Apps

Posted by Pete Paxton in "Smartphone Talk" @ 01:30 PM

Have you used either of these? I started a couple of months ago and now next to an Internet browser, they are my most used apps. For those who haven't used Evernote, it's a note taking app that's available for a large variety of systems. There's a version for Windows, Windows Mobile, Mac, Iphone, Blackberry, and a web based version. If you get creative, you can even run Evernote on Ubuntu. Each of these versions stay synced all the time so you have your notes wherever you go. It supports web clipping, voice notes, photos, and all your notes are stored in self created notebooks. See a recipe you want on the web? Clip it and store it in an Evernote notebook.

I've been using Evernote for online receipts, projects, lesson planning, web clippings of future purchases, and other various articles. I also use it as a place to store scanned images. I use the mobile version and the camera on my mobile device to take pictures of notes, copies of rebates, whiteboards, store products, and anything else I may want a photo reminder of. After each sync, your notes are on all your devices. You also get your own Evernote email address.

This is where Dial2Do comes in. Any email you send to your Evernote email address becomes a note. Dial2Do allows you to send voice email messages that end up as text messages in your recipient's email inbox. You can have up to 100 contacts in Dial2Do and Evernote can be one of them. So I dial up Dial2Do and leave a voice message that ends up as a text note in my Evernote account. Very cool. Both services are free though Evernote also provides a premium account which is the one I have. Click on either logo to go to their site.

Let us know if you use these services and how you like them. While your at it, what are some apps that you use that the rest of us might be interested in?

Open Enrollment To Evernote Beta April 24 Only

Posted by Ed Hansberry in "Pocket PC Software" @ 09:30 AM

http://blog.evernote.com/2008/04/24...anks-a-million/

Over three and a half years ago, I first posted about the Evernote program, excited about the prospect of having a rich note taking application on the device. I've been involved in various betas and some false starts over the years, and have been consistently running and enjoying the desktop client. The mobile client still isn't where it needs to be in my opinion, but what they currently have in place is usable in many circumstances.

"The new Evernote closed beta is about two months old and we've just passed an important milestone: our first one million notes! During this time, we've made lots of improvements to the service and we'll be announcing a few more big things in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned."

They are also opening up the registration for the beta today between the hours of 6am to 9pm Pacific Time, so as of this posting, you have almost 12 hours to sign up. I love what the folks at Evernote have done with the desktop client and have seen what they are capable of in some of the betas, even though they felt they were rough enough around the edges to hold off on releasing as final builds, so almost 4 years later, I am still excited about the product and looking forward to the coming months as they finalize the current beta and get it out the door. If you want to participate, head over to their site and join the beta, or just sign up and get your place in line to get an account if you aren't up to the task of doing a beta with them.
