Palm Treo 800w Reviewed

If you're interested in the Treo 800w, take a look at Bryan's review over at Mobility Site, as he takes you through both the software and the hardware - in particular, the 320 x 320 screen, which is still somewhat of a rarity among current Windows Mobile devices.

Treo 800w Early Review Roundup

Posted by Janak Parekh in "Pocket PC Articles" @ 07:00 AM

Along with that "other phone", Palm (relatively quietly) launched their 800w, and the early reviews have been pouring in. For those of you considering the 800w, here's a collection of unboxings and reviews you may find helpful.

In general, most reviewers seem to think it's a worthwhile improvement over the earlier Treos, with the biggest criticisms being the thickness, the battery life, and the connector switch to microUSB. Have any of you picked up the 800w? If so, contribute your thoughts in the thread. We'll be sure to update you with more reviews as they come in.

Update 7/24 2:15pm: Changed Engadget Mobile's link to reflect their full review posted this afternoon.

Verizon Slides Show Samsung i770, Palm 800W, and Network Updates

Posted by Paul Martin in "Pocket PC News" @ 04:00 PM

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/...800w-fun-facts/

"Sandwiched between a pair of overdue TPS reports in our desk's inbox this morning was this little gem, a glossy Verizon presentation filled with magical, exotic wonders hailing from a place and time not too far from our own. For starters, we're guessing that the giant "ID NOT FINAL" label here means that the Samsung i770 won't look quite like this nightmarish blue slab of death by the time it's released, but even if it does, we're happy to report that it'll still be sporting the GSM radio for global service we've been hearing about all along."

Engadget Mobile managed to get ahold of a Verizon slide presentation which reveals some promising device plans including the Samsung i770, the rumored worldband version of the i760, and will sport both EvDO and GSM when it's released this fall. The slides also show the XV6800 should have received a WM6.1 update in May and the i760 should have it's 6.1 upgrade released this month. Other goodies include a WiFi-enabled Palm 800W also planned for 3rd Quarter this year, system updates, and even specifics on coverage expansion. Check out the full gallery of slides here.

Palm Treo 800w Available From Sprint In July?

Posted by Ed Hansberry in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.brighthand.com/default.asp?newsID=13913

"According to a leaked product roadmap, Palm's next high-end Windows Mobile smartphone will be introduced by Sprint in July. This report in in-line with comments from Palm executives, who said recently that their company will refresh its line of business-oriented smartphones this summer."

This is being touted as a replacement for the 700w, so it would seem to be a WM Professional (Pocket PC) device, not a WM Standard (Smartphone) as has been suggested by some rumors. It also shows WM 6.0 instead of 6.1, but this is an early list and it is still possible 6.1 will get loaded before it ships. They are providing a camera and cameraless version which will be good for those in jobs where camera phones are forbidden. I also believe this is the first Treo from Palm with built in WiFi. It is unconfirmed yet as to whether or not this device will have a 320x320 screen.
