Pharos Offering Free Traveler 137 Swap-Out

Posted by Eriq Cook in "Windows Phone News" @ 12:30 AM

"Pharos is offering a free swap-out program for those who purchased the company's Windows Phone, the Traveler 137. Pharos will ship for free, replacement phones that will lack the power management issues and faulty power button issues the early production models developed."

After many complaints about faulty units, a Pharos spokesperson has announced a free replacement program to resolve faulty power button and battery meter issues. In addition to the free trade, Pharos will also upgrade units shipped with Windows Mobile 6.1 to 6.5.

The Traveler 137 was released in mid-2009 as Pharos' first 3G PND (Personal Navigation Device). While I have not owned a Pharos device, I have read praises about their customer service and this is a reflection of their commitment to keep their customers happy.

Have you used a Traveler 137? Let us know your experience!

"Pharos Science & Applications, Inc., a leading provider of location-based information and services, today announced the immediate availability of the Traveler 137, a striking Windows phone that is the first to give users access to 3G data speeds on both the T-Mobile and AT&T Wireless networks. The Traveler 137 features hybrid navigation software, giving it the unique ability to provide voice-prompted navigation even without a connection to a carrier's network. The Traveler 137 is sold unlocked, enabling users to use local GSM SIM cards worldwide and avoid international roaming charges. The Traveler 137 is available today from Amazon.com, Dell.com, eXpansys.com, and Newegg.com for the suggested retail price of $599.95. Users can obtain a $250 discount on the phone if signing up for a new T-Mobile two-year contract through Pharos."

The Pharos Traveler 137, which was unveiled back in January, is now available from major retailers for $599.95. If you're interested in saving a little and don't mind waiting a day, our affiliate hardware store should have some in stock tomorrow at the discounted price of $559.99.

The specs? A Qualcomm MSM 7201A 528 MHz processor, 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM, quad-band GSM/EDGE and tri-band (1700/1900/2100 MHz) UMTS/HSUPA/HSDPA connectivity, a stunning 3.5", 480 x 800 touch screen, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, an FM tuner, aGPS, dual-cameras (3.0-megapixel on the rear, 0.3-megapixel on the front), a microSDHC slot, USB 2.0, a stereo audio jack, and a 1380 mAh Li-Ion battery. It ships with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, though we have confirmation from Pharos that it will be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.5.

"Pharos' Traveller 137 is at CES and as far as well packed Windows Mobile sets go, it is pretty much at the top of the heap. We won't bore you with the specs again, but if there's anything you want in a phone, it's likely already in there. Follow the link below to get a closer look at the world's first unlocked AWS 3G handset."

Engadget scored a quick look at the feature-packed Traveler 137 while at CES. And now you can, too. Click to check out their gallery.

Pharos is at CES showing off its latest device, the Traveler 137, and there's enough in it to make the Touch HD quiver with fear. For starters, there's a Qualcomm MSM7201A processor running at 528MHz, 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM. There's also a crisp 3.5" touch screen with a resolution of 480 x 800, a 3.0-megapixel camera, a microSDHC slot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, aGPS, an FM radio, and support for quad-band GSM/EDGE and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (1700/1900/2100MHz). The Traveler 137 hits stores this quarter at an MSRP of $599.95. Jump the break for the press release.
