Twikini Will Stop Working August 31

Posted by Ed Hansberry in "Windows Phone Software" @ 06:30 AM

http://twitter.com/twikini/status/20843244593

If you are using Twikini for your Twitter fix on your Windows Mobile Phone, enjoy it while it lasts. Twitter has changed its authentication method to make things more secure and more trouble free for end users. All Twitter clients need to be updated to take advantage of this. Those that don't will see slowdowns beginning August 16th until August 31st, where the old method of authentication will be blocked altogether.

That's right, we got your money and don't need you anymore.

Trinket Software, the makers of Twikini, are throwing in the towel on Windows Mobile 6.x and despite collecting a good bit of revenue from users of the popular software, they will make no effort to update the client. Instead, they say it will return for Windows Phone 7 late this year.

As someone who has purchased two clients, one for my wife and one for me, I am not a happy camper. I can assure you that if they don't reverse this decision, they will never get another penny from me for any other platform. I'd sooner use the web client, which isn't too bad actually as Twitter has improved it lately, than support a developer of a recent and popular app that drops all support for a paid product. I just noticed in my Quicken records that I paid for Twikini last summer, so barely a year after using it, poof, it is gone. So are at least two of your loyal customers Trinket Software.

Microsoft Windows phone 7 Team Member Leaves Microsoft...to Create Windows phone 7 Apps

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Windows Phone News" @ 07:00 AM

http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2010/03...s-phone-7-apps/

"All naysaying aside, people are pretty excited about Windows Phone 7. Our readers are excited for it. I'd be outright lying if I said I wasn't excited about it, too. Know who else is excited? The Windows Phone 7 team - but perhaps not for the reasons you'd expect. With a few years of work finally coming to a head, some of the folks on the Windows Phone 7 team are taking a step back, looking at the fruits of their labor... and leaving. Not because they're ashamed, and not because they're being poached by the competition - but because instead of making Windows Phone 7, they want to make things for Windows Phone 7."

Going back a few years, anyone remember Two Peaks software, headed up by Mel Sampat? I always liked Two Peaks software - in fact, I'm still using FlexWallet to this day, despite it being replaced by eWallet, and always like what Sampat did for users in terms of creating really superb software. He went to work for Microsoft a few years ago, and I kept in touch - in fact, at one point we had a conference call about what a pain that stupid birthday alarm triggering at midnight problem was. I'll have to find out if that lunacy has continued on into Windows phone 7 - I kind of doubt it, but then again, I never thought after 7+ years the same problem would continue to cause problems. But I digress... Read more...

Twikini 2.1 Released

Posted by Ed Hansberry in "Windows Phone Software" @ 08:00 AM

http://www.trinketsoftware.com/twik...i/Versions.aspx

Twikini 2.1 has been released. 2.0 was released last week but I held off on posting about it because it had adopted the new Twitter Retweet method. Twikini 2.1 now gives you the choice to use the new method or the old "RT" method. Many people, myself included, aren't a fan of the new method.

2.x has also added the ability to geotag your tweets. Unfortunately it still retains the bug where long tweets require you to tap on them to see the full text. It is a free upgrade to 1.x owners. There is a free trial and you can pick up the app for $4.95 if you like it.

There are some miscellaneous bug fixes too. It is a free upgrade for all Twikini 1.x owners.

Twikini: Rocking Twitter On Your Smartphone

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Pocket PC Software" @ 12:20 PM

http://www.trinketsoftware.com/Twikini/

"Twikini offers a powerful and efficient way to use Twitter on your phone. It conveniently updates your favorite feeds in the background, and leverages the camera, GPS, media, touch screen, keyboard, graphics and storage capabilities of your device. Our goal is to make Twikini the best designed Twitter app for Windows devices in the world."

If you're doing the Twitter thing, you know it's all about having a good software client. Sure, you can use the mobile Twitter Web site, but that gets you only the basics. Twikini brings with it a bunch of great features, including the ability to post your GPS location or coordinates, and the ability to interact with Twitter in all the ways that matter: direct messages, replies, etc. Best of all, Twikini is nice and cheap - only $4.95 USD, and you get another Trinket Software application thrown in, such as the awesome PowerSMS (a really great app). It's realy great to see fresh new developers embracing the Windows Mobile platform and bringing quality applications to the table - nice work Trinket Software!
