Be a Tattle Tale!

Posted by Nelson Ocampo in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 03:30 PM

http://wptattletale.com/

"Microsoft has gone out of its way to build an awesome experience for the phone with Windows Phone 7. But the one experience they can't control is what happens when you walk into a retail store to buy one. And it's too bad, because the retail experience, as handle by carriers and their affiliates, is an abomination. It's pretty hard to try out a new device experience when the device is either broken, dead, or a plastic shell with a sticker for a home screen. Or when the response to 'Can I see a Windows Phone?' is met with 'Have you seen the AMOLED screen on the Samsung Charge?'"

WPTattletale.com is a site where you could post your experiences when trying to purchase, or learn more about, Windows Phone 7. Many of use have heard stories, or have had personal experiences where you feel that retailers are not treating Windows Phone fairly. Perhaps they push a different product when you specifically ask about Windows Phone. Perhaps they just make the experience of trying to learn more about it tedious with non-working display models or some other inconvenience. Feel free to share your experiences and name the stores and salespeople that are the offenders.

Be a tattle tale!

An XDA-Developers Online Store?

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Windows Phone Software" @ 02:30 PM

Keep your eyes on the www.xda-downloads.com as it looks like something interesting may be brewing. While XDA developers is home to some of the questionably legal software for our devices (and outright thefts of OEM's proprietary software), it is also the home to many nifty little utilities that you may want for your phone. So an app store of hacks might prove valuable.

Hands-On With Windows Marketplace for Mobile

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Pocket PC Articles" @ 03:00 PM

http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-12261_...8-10356022.html

"Microsoft launched its new Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system this week at the CTIA Wireless conference (see all stories) in San Diego. The OS includes a refreshed Internet Explorer Mobile, the new My Phone media sync and share service, and a brand new app store called, unceremoniously, Windows Marketplace for Mobile."

C|NET has a quick video about the Windows Marketplace for Mobile - it's hard to say without having used it myself yet, but it looks a bit clumsy compared to the App store experience I've become used to on my iPod Touch. Anyone else have opinions on what using the new Windows Mobile Marketplace is like?

Windows Marketplace Registration Opens

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Developer" @ 09:50 PM

http://developer.windowsmobile.com/

"In the latest update to http://developer.windowsmobile.com, developers can now Register to participate in Windows Marketplace for Mobile. This marks another milestone in providing Windows Mobile Developers a clear path to develop, test, certify and distribute their Windows Mobile applications via the Windows® Marketplace for Mobile. Throughout the registration process, links to key documentation for distributing apps through Windows Marketplace for Mobile are provided."

Developers, if you haven't registered to participate in the Windows Marketplace for Mobile, now's as good a time as any to do so. You'll have to pony up an annual subscription fee of $99, but doing so will net you assistance with the development, certification, and distribution of your app. Check out the FAQ, if you have any queries. It's worth noting that participation is optional. You may consider the cost or the policies of the Marketplace to be too restrictive, in which case, you're still welcome to develop your app and distribute it through third-party storefronts as you're probably already doing so in this pre-Marketplace era.
