gMaps v1.1 Available in the Marketplace

Posted by Adan Galvan in "Windows Phone News" @ 08:00 AM

Windows Phone is all about Bing right! Anyone? Okay, for some Google is still their go-to solution for map data and routes, and if you are on Windows Phone you would probably do well to check out gMaps 1.10. The latest version brings theme support, zoom buttons, and geo-location information. The app sells for $1.99 and is available in the marketplace now.

Bing Grabs Global Number Two Spot

This is worthwhile news, but Bing is still a long way away from challenging Google's search hegemony. After all we're still talking about a 0.5% lead over Yahoo, and far behind Google's near 90% share. Still it's noteworthy that Bing's making such progress, even given Microsoft's advantage in making it the default search engine for IE, and for WP7.

Hawaii Five-O Windows Phone 7 + Bing Product Placement

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 03:53 PM

I was watching last night's episode of Hawaii Five-O on my lunch break today, and I saw what's easily the most painfully obvious product placement I've seen in a long time. Check out the video above. I wonder how many times the actor said "Google it" and they had to re-do the scene with the proper "Bing it"? ;-) Windows Phone 7 looks good in the scene though!

Bing Team Excited for Windows Phone 7 Release

Posted by Adan Galvan in "Windows Phone News" @ 08:00 PM

http://www.bing.com/community/blogs...ws-phone-7.aspx

"Not surprisingly, what excites us the most is what the team has done with Bing on the Windows Phone 7. There have been some very positive reviews of the experience as a whole and it's great to see how the team's work integrating a native Bing experience has been received."

Microsoft has done an excellent job at integrating technologies into Windows Phone 7. This is no more apparent than in the way Bing has been prominently placed on the phone to provide users with a powerful and intuitive search experience. The Bing team has been working hard to make sure that there are plenty of useful features such as location-based searches, news, and of course, Bing Maps. One thing that is currently lacking (but was available with Windows Mobile) is voice-guided navigation. The Bing team has shown an agility that seems to have been lacking on other teams at Microsoft, so it will be interesting to see what else they come up with before launch. Read more about the features being included by the Bing team by following the link below.

Bing Mobile Updated, Mixed Reactions Reported

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Windows Phone Software" @ 01:00 PM

http://discoverbing.com/mobile/

Bing Mobile recently got an update, however I'm hearing quite a bit of mixed reactions on it. Todd Ogasawara isn't a fan, calling it "touch hostile", while Darren Humphries of Mobile Jaw is happy to see Traffic for Canada (Something Google Maps hasn't integrated yet). Love it or hate it, it's out now and shall bring Bing to your device if you'd like.

Bing is Mobile Friendly

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Pocket PC Sites & Resources" @ 02:10 PM

http://m.bing.com

Bing is Microsoft's re-branded and re-launched Live Search engine, so if you're looking for something using your smartphone, point your mobile browser at m.bing.com. A nice, short URL! I've done a bit of testing and it works quite well in terms of results and giving you customized options for your location - I added weather to the Bing home page. Of course, it's always a bit of a challenge to fit a lot of results on the screen, but at first glance Bing works well. Have you used it yet? What are your impressions?

Microsoft Releases BingTones for Phones, Puns In the Process

"Bing isn't just a search engine, it's a decision engine. Download these Bing-branded ringtones to your mobile device, then make www.bing.com your new default search engine today."

Microsoft's BingTones certainly live up to their name. There's more "bing" in them than you could ever imagine. Perhaps to the point where using them would cause offense to those around you on your daily commute. Still, check 'em out and let us know if they've found a new home on your Windows Mobile device.
