Quick Tips: WP7 Keyboard Tips

Posted by Richard Chao in "Windows Phone News" @ 07:02 PM

http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_...e-keyboard.aspx

"Itai Almog, pictured second from left, was the guy who led the development effort on the engineering side. He works just down the hall from me. In addition its scientific smarts, the keyboard is also packed full of time-saving shortcuts."

Itai, one of the engineers of the Windows Phone 7 keyboard, has listed his top seven favorite keyboard tips in a blog post on the Windows Team Blog by Michael Stroh.

1. Type fast and trust the keyboard to correct you.

2. Double-tap Space at the end of a sentence to add a period and capitalize the start of the next sentence.

3. Tap & hold various keys to reveal hidden menus. The period key is especially handy.

4. Boost your speed: Tap the Shift or Numbers/Symbols key, slide your finger to the character you want, and then release. Saves you a tap.

5. In the suggestion bar, tap "+" to teach the phone a new word.

6. To undo auto-correction: tap the word, then tap the first candidate (the original word) in the suggestion bar.

7. Multilingual? Go to Settings>Keyboard to select other keyboard languages.

Taking Pictures of Fireworks

Posted by Ed Hansberry in "Thoughts Media Off Topic" @ 08:57 AM

http://lifehacker.com/397649/get-be...-fourth-of-july

For those of us living in the US today is Independence Day, the official birth of our country. We celebrate by lighting fires and burning stuff all day long. It begins at the grill where hot dogs, hamburgers and whatever else you want are thrown onto an open flame and end at night where we light enough gunpowder to wake the dead.

Boom!

I figured anyone in the US reading this site also has a camera and more than a few of us could use a few pointers to make sure that when we take pictures we get more than just some hazy smoke or a blur of flashing streaks across the image. Lifehacker has a few tips in the link below that will make your picture taking result in a better photo gallery. Once done, post links to your favorite shots from your Flickr, Smugmug or whatever online gallery you use for your images.

And Happy 4th of July!

"I picked up my T-Mobile HD2 the other day and believe there are thousands of others that did the same based on my in-store experience and reports that the device is sold out across the country. Since I had the chance to use the Euro model and now this one while also being very familiar with Windows Mobile devices I thought I would put together a post of some key tips and tricks to help out new HD2 owners."

If you're lucky enough to have an HD2, Matthew Miller has some great tips and tricks for customizing your new premium phone more to your (or his, I suppose) liking. Enjoy HD2 Owners!

One Line Wisdom: Windows Mobile Edition

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Pocket PC Talk" @ 05:33 AM

In the past we've asked you to share your best tips with the community, and in the same vein comes my newest talking point, the elusive yet useful joys of a small nugget of wisdom. Your mission, dear community, is to share one short line of wisdom that you might give to new users of Windows Mobile devices, old vets, and recent converts from "dumbphones". Feel free to expound on your one-liner, but the one-liner should be able to stand on it's own. Here's mine:

When it comes to software, less is more

My line refers to the temptation some users get to trick out their phones with every conceivable application under the sun. And trust me - I was no exception to this when I started out with Windows Mobile. I had (still have actually) registration codes for easily the top 30 applications for Windows Mobile. I tried everything, bought most of it, and today use almost none of it. Aside from 3-5 applications I install, my device remains stock. Why? Well it isn't that the software isn't well written, it's simply that I know what I use and try to avoid the clutter of unused doodads. When you find the software that really works for you, you don't need to spend hours tinkering with everything else. Your smartphone just works, smartly, for you.

Now it's your turn - share your line of wisdom and explanation (Perhaps it's When it comes to software, use everything!")!
