Tegra 2 Details Coming At CES

Posted by Josh Sorenson in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 03:30 PM

http://www.slashgear.com/nvidia-teg...n-2010-1666102/

"Full details regarding Tegra 2 are unknown, but it's expected to have roughly twice the power and graphical capabilities of the original and be based on 40nm processes. The current-gen Tegra is already capable of 1080p HD video; Hara says NVIDIA's goal is the desktop internet and media experience in a portable device:"

The first Tegra chip is mouth watering enough, but imagine a chip that can handle twice what the current Tegra does. That is just what Nvidia's Tegra 2 is rumored to do. They are set to release more details at CES 2010, including some demo products from their partners. The first half of next year will bring us tablet PCs, smartbooks, netbooks, and MIDs all powered by Tegra 2. Later down the line will we see a second generation Zune HD based off of the new chip? Or a Windows phone? Only time will tell on that one.

NVidia's Tegra Coming From a Top 5

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 12:30 PM

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/...facturer-befor/

"If you want to get HD in your handheld, NVIDIA's Tegra processor is the hot way to do it at the moment, and we've got reasonably concrete sounding rumors from disparate sources that a handset containing one of the chips is currently under development by a "top five" smartphone builder (we're guessing it's not Apple)"

What really is a "top 5" manufacturer? Is this sorted alphabetically? If so then I really need to get my "AAAdvantage Manufacturing" subsidary up and running... All kidding aside, NVidia's Tegra may be an interesting addition with Windows Mobile rumors swimming around it.

nVidia's New Tegra Mobile Platform

Posted by Janak Parekh in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.nvidia.com/object/io_1212391368499.html

"Today, NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) introduced the Tegra family of processors, the world’s first single-chip computer capable of the rich high definition and internet experiences we’ve come to expect from our PCs, but on small pocket type devices. NVIDIA Tegra is a tiny computer-on-a-chip, smaller than a US dime (10-cent piece), designed from the ground up to enable the 'visual PC experience' on a new generation of mobile computing devices while consuming the smallest amount of power...The NVIDIA Tegra 650 processor is the second product in the Tegra line, the first being the NVIDIA Tegra APX 2500 processor, which is enabling the next generation of Windows Mobile smartphones. With the launch of this new processor, the NVIDIA Tegra products will reach consumers towards the end of the year."

One has to be very careful about getting excited about corporate PR, but if you do read this nVidia release, the Tegra 650 sounds like a promising ARM-based platform (1080p output!). Of course, there's no guarantee we'll see a WM device with it right away, but given the "Windows Mobile Board Support Package" and the existing adoption of the APX 2500, things look promising. Time will tell.
