"GPS Tuner, developers of Outdoor Navigation, has released Turn by Turn Navigation for Windows Phone 7. Focusing on simplicity, Turn by Turn allows you to tap on a map point or search for an address, click on a pushpin and press the GO button to begin your journey."

GPS Tuner is offering their navigation app for just $4.99 in the Marketplace. There is also a free trial (limited travel distance) that you can try out as well. Certainly can't hurt to try it! Hit the Read link for a quick video demo.

TA Maps 2 Now Available On The WP7 Marketplace

Posted by Brad Wasson in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 11:00 PM

http://www.techautos.com/2011/02/11...-7-marketplace/

"TA Maps is a mapping solution that uses sources like Google Maps and OpenStreetMap and gives better coverage in many parts of the world than Bing Maps."

If you have heard in the past about the TA Maps app, which was pitched as Google Maps for Windows Phone 7, then this development may be quite exciting for you. To use the original version you would have needed a jailbroken phone, and I'm sure none of our readers would have had one (ahem). This new version is available in the Marketplace. It looks like it is very full featured, including:

  • Scrollable/zoomable maps
  • Street/satellite views
  • GPS location tracking
  • Search
  • Favorite locations
  • Driving mode (keeps map centered on GPS location)
  • GPS sensitivity settings
  • Smoothly restores your last map view and pushpins

If you have some experience with this app, please let us know in the comments how you think it compares with Bing Maps.

Become a Telmap Navigator Beta Tester

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Software" @ 10:10 PM

http://www.telmap.com/tugPC

Telmap has opened its user group to you, dear Pocket PC Thoughts reader. Join the user group and you'll join a beta program that will allow you to test and use Telmap Navigator for free. Navigator is a turn-by-turn in-car navigation application, complete with 3D moving maps, traffic and speed camera information, text-to-speech capabilities, pedestrian support, and local search for millions of POIs around the world.

To register, visit www.telmap.com/tugpc. Feedback can be addressed to tugadmin [at] telmap [dot] com.

Update #1: The folks at Telmap have just written in to inform us that they've been overwhelmed by Pocket PC Thoughts readers interested in testing Navigator. As a result, they will soon be imposing a limit on the number of registrations in order to keep the group to a manageable size. So, if you want in, you'd better scoot off to the registration page before it's too late. We'll post a second update once the doors have closed.

Update #2: Telmap has received plenty of US registrations, so the limit is on US registrations only. The company is still welcoming registrations from readers based in other countries.

GPS Tuner 5.4 Supports Online Maps and Cameras

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Software" @ 01:00 PM

http://gpstuner.com/

"GPS Tuner v5.4 and Map Calibrator v2.5 have been released. The new version of Award Winning off-road navigation software is now able to downlad Google Terrain (Topo) Maps and Open Street Maps from internet and use them without any calibration process. The new Map Calibrator also supports these new types of online maps. Suunto’s X9i off-road GPS watch data format (.sdf) is also supported, so you are able to see your X9i track in GPS Tuner or in Map Calibrator or upload your saved waypoints/routes to Suunto X9i internal memory. New map rotation mode (in 90 degrees steps) and built-in camera support are also implemented in GPS Tuner v5.4."

Online maps and camera support? The venerable GPS Tuner just keeps getting better. Hit the product web page to download. For registered users who purchased less than a year ago, this one's a free upgrade.
