HTC Touch Dual Reviewed

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Articles" @ 12:03 AM

http://www.mobiletechreview.com/pho...-Touch-Dual.htm

"Say hello to my little friend: the HTC Touch Dual North American version. It's small, it's soft-touch cuddly, yet it packs the power of Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, 3G HSDPA for the US and a slide-out 20 key QWERTY keyboard that uses predictive text. At 400MHz it has the power to keep up, and there's ample RAM to keep things moving smoothly. It runs HTC's TouchFLO user interface, let's call it TouchFLO 2.0 because it has new features since TouchFLO first debuted on the GSM HTC Touch, and it's had the kinks worked out."

MTR has just given the US version of the HTC Touch Dual a 4 out of 5. So, if you're currently standing in your local Best Buy feeling a little undecided over giving up $549, let the review help you out. Oh, and yeah, I have no idea how it qualifies as "cuddly" either.

Another weekend is approaching, but that typical wind down period isn't stopping Best Buy from gearing up for the US launch of the unlocked HTC Touch Dual. This version features the 20-key layout, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and dual-band HSDPA (850MHz/1900MHz) connectivity, and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. So, if you're eager for some 6.1 action and simply can't wait for the Touch Diamond to make an appearance, gather $549.99 and head over to your local Best Buy or shop online this weekend.

E-TEN Preparing Dual-SIM Glofiish DX900?

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 06:20 AM

http://smartmania.mobilmania.cz/ind...single&ide=1024

Dual-SIM Windows Mobile devices are few and far between, so SmartMania.cz's latest report (translated version) naturally caught our attention. The Czech site is reporting that E-TEN has a dual-SIM, HSDPA-capable Glofiish up its sleeve and before you ask - it's not the upcoming V900. Instead, this one's dubbed the DX900 and features Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, a Samsung S3C6400 533MHz processor, 128MB RAM, 256MB ROM, a 2.8" VGA touchscreen, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, an FM tuner, a 3.0-megapixel camera, a G-sensor (accelerometer?), and a microSDHC slot. No details yet on price and availability, let alone whether this device actually exists, although next month's Computex might clue us in.

Phone Scoop Does CTIA 2008

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Articles" @ 07:35 AM

CTIA was Microsoft's playground for the unveiling of Windows Mobile 6.1, and Microsoft's hardware partners certainly weren't afraid to make a showing. Phone Scoop, in their ever-so-thorough ways, have covered CTIA from top to bottom, and there's plenty of Windows Mobile content for your perusal. Obviously, there's coverage of 6.1 and plenty of eye-candy to drool over if you're a Standard (Smartphone) user. Yes, Professional (Pocket PC) users - you have a reason to be jealous. Moving on, there's more eye-candy and a video of the HTC Touch Dual that's set to invade Best Buy stores this quarter. There's Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 in all its glory, and it too is running Windows Mobile 6.1 (a little known fact back when the X1 was first introduced due to NDAs and the like). And then there's a lengthy article on Velocity Mobile, a new entrant into the Windows Mobile market. More on that after the break. Read more...

HTC Touch Dual with Windows Mobile 6.1 Lands in America

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 09:00 PM

"HTC Corp. (TAIEX: 2498; “HTC”), a global leader in smartphone design and manufacturing, revealed that the popular HTC Touch Dual™ will debut in the United States this quarter. Announced today at the Cellular Telecommunication and Internet Association (CTIA) Wireless 2008 spring conference, the HTC Touch Dual™ combines an intuitive touch screen with integrated TouchFLO™ technology and slide-out keypad and Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional software, making it easier for customers to communicate on the go. “HTC has witnessed incredible support and demand for the Touch product portfolio, and we are pleased to provide our customers with the opportunity to experience additional iterations of the Touch product family,” said Jason Mackenzie, vice president of HTC America. “The Touch Dual will be among the first devices in the United States to run Windows Mobile 6.1 and will be followed by a range of 6.1 updates for several other HTC products.”"

HTC's popular keypad-enhanced version of the Touch is set for a US release this quarter. The Touch Dual boasts some impressive features including a Qualcomm MSM7200 400MHz CPU, 128MB RAM, 256MB ROM, Bluetooth 2.0, a 2.0-megapixel camera, TouchFLO, and Windows Mobile 6.1, which Microsoft unveiled today. Unfortunately, there's no Wi-Fi, and connectivity is limited to tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and 2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA. But if you can live with those limitations and you still think this sleek device tickles your fancy, you'll soon be able to purchase an unlocked version from Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile outlets, or online at HTC.com.

Update: Looks like the US version packs quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and dual-band (850/1900) UMTS/HSDPA connectivity. Hooray for tweaks.
