HTC Dream Skinny Compared to iPhone?

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Thoughts Media Off Topic" @ 09:00 AM

"Attempts to keep the most hotly anticipated consumer electronics devices under wraps these days are getting more and more futile. It's hard enough for companies to control disgruntled employees and leaks in the international supply chain, stir in a giant government organization and things quickly unravel. Case in point: T-Mobile's HTC Dream, widely believed to be the world's first Android handset. After Engadget loosed the Dream from its FCC constraints on the 18th of August, HTC contacted the agency on the 19th with a request to use a less detailed diagram for the FCC label placement. Fortunately for us they complied, giving us what can only be construed as official measurements in the process. The newly unveiled 115 x 55-mm dimensions tell us that it beats the iPhone 3G in terms of length and width but is almost certainly thicker than the iPhone due to the Dream's sliding QWERTY"

Everybody has news on the Dream, whether you want to hear it or not. Engadget speculates repeatedly (here and here) on it's dimensions via FCC documents. And the above video with the Darth Vader like breathing? Well it's probably the lord of the Sith playing with a Dream, if you're to believe the hype surrounding it. I guess we'll know more in coming days, but at this rate I have to let Dream information sit in my inbox for a day or two before posting to make sure it's not changed, updated, debunked, or clarified. I wish this thing would just appear in the marketplace!

HTC Dream Cleared by FCC

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Thoughts Media Off Topic" @ 02:43 PM

"The long rumored HTC Dream handset -- once referred to as "The Googlephone" -- just received FCC approval. The handset is listed as type, "Dream" with a model of "DREA100." The same model also appears with a WiFi Interoperability Certificate touting 802.11b/g WiFi. If indeed this is the long awaited Android phone, then T-Mobile, HTC, and Google are free to announce in September with an October launch as originally planned"

So of course since the launch has been announced, one would hope that the FCC approval is done - and it is. Why post this then? Well because I don't think you've heard quite enough about the Dream yet, and this whole Android thing. Or perhaps you have... Maybe it's time to stop hyping this device. Thoughts?

Pre-Order a Dream on September 17

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Thoughts Media Off Topic" @ 09:25 PM

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2008...september-17th/

"We've been hearing a lot about Android recently, from delayed release dates to a video claiming to depict the fabled HTC Dream in action. What we haven't heard, however, is anything specific about the public availability of the first Android devices to hit the streets. HTC and T-Mobile have been promising an Android-based device by the end of this year, but haven't gone any further into the specifics. TmoNews is now claiming that the HTC Dream will, in fact, be the first Android device to reach our hands. The site is reporting that T-Mobile will begin offering the Dream via a special promotional pre-sale event beginning September 17th, which is just over a month from now. The device will reportedly cost $150 for current T-Mobile subscribers, though it could sell for as much as $399 when it goes on sale to the general public some time later."

Android-based phones have been rumored almost since the day the internet started (or at least it seems that way), now it looks like one may be had by members of the carrier that manages to continually "ride the short bus" - T-Mobile. But at least it should support 3G data, and have a 3 MP camera as well as that groovy android OS. Anyone thinking of checking one out?
