Because of the server move we had to do last night and this morning, things are a bit back-logged on me getting the 31 Days of the Dragon contest up on Digital Home Thoughts. It will happen today for sure, but it won't kick off until tonight - sorry about that! Watch for it. In the meantime, here's an updated list on some of the contests that are still going on, and some that are ending very soon:

iPaq 900 In FCC Certification

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 06:00 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/17/...e-hits-the-fcc/

"HP's iPAQ 900 series smartphones haven't exactly had the smoothest of releases ('round these parts at least) since they were first announced way back in September of last year, but one of 'em has at least managed to recently trickle out into the hands of the lucky folks at the FCC, which could possibly indicate that it's actually nearing a US release. In case you missed it, the Windows Mobile-based phone was previously hinted as coming to AT&T in its iPAQ 910 incarnation, although the FCC unsurprisingly doesn't have anything to say about that possibility."

The 900 series was announced along with the 600 series, almost six months ago. In case you missed Jason's new iPaqs posts at the time, the 900 features quadband GSM, triband HSDPA, 802.11 b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, AGPS, 520 MHz Marvell processor, 3MP camera, 128 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM. Expanded storage comes courtesy of a microSD slot and a 1840 mAh battery will ensure you're good to go for a full day's work. No information on if or when it would be available in the US, though - the 600 series of course never made it due to potential legal issues, and FCC certification is typically done irregardless of retail availability. Is this iPaq on anybody's wishlist?

iPaq 614 News Roundup

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "HARDWARE" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.pocketpcsoft.net/forum/i...opic,278.0.html

"I'm pleased to say my 614c arrived this morning, I put together a short unboxing video, which also compares the device to the 514 and 6915 as well as shows the scroll wheel in action. Look out for a review in a week or so when I've had chance to use the iPAQ 600 day to day."

It never rains but it pours - we have not one, but three items on the just released iPaq 614/614c. You're not likely to see this offered officially in the US, but if you like it enough, where there's a will there's a way - it's a nice enough Pro device to evaluate in that light. First up, gregh at PocketPCSoft.net has an unboxing video. Next, Shaun McGill at PDA24/7 also has a first impressions post on the 614c - he notes a couple of potential deal breakers like the card slot being under the battery. Lastly as a followup to last week's unboxing video, Tracy and Matt have a full review of the device, and say while the device is snappy, it is on the large side and the current ROM isn't bug free (pic above from their review). Enjoy reading!
