Microsoft Wants To Sell 100 Million Devices A Year Via Three Screens Strategy

"Microsoft's COO Kevin Turner announced at WPC'11 that the company hopes to sell up to 100 million Windows Phone devices a year. Targeting and catering for a larger user base is the first baby step in achieving this goal."

Going from the current sales figure of Windows Phone devices to 100 million a year are pretty lofty goals. But that's exactly what Microsoft's COO Kevin Turner announced at WPC'11 as the company's goal for the future. Kevin explained Microsoft intends to attain these goals by taking the Metro UI and going after a unified "3 screens" strategy. Microsoft will use the Metro UI and bring it across PCs, mobile devices and TVs to tie them together in a unified ecosystem.

WPC 2011 Announcement: Four New WP7 Handsets Coming Soon And 22K Official App Count

"Also announced at WPC are new hardware devices for the Windows Phone platform. The three devices shown above are a ZTE based device (far right), Acer (far left) and a waterproof Fujitsu in the middle in a waterproof case. Nothing else was revealed about the new devices."

Microsoft has just announced four new Windows Phone 7 handsets at their Worldwide Partner Conference. They will be manufactured by ZTE, Fujitsu, Acer and Samsung. Specs, pricing and availability were not part of the announcement. Although, there is speculation that the Samsung unit appeared to contain a front facing camera.

Also announced at the conference was the Marketplace is now home to over 22,000 applications according to Microsoft's metrics.
