T-Mobile Begins “Kids Are Free” Promotion

Posted by Adan Galvan in "Windows Phone News" @ 09:00 PM

http://press.t-mobile.com/articles/...promotion-offer

T-mobile announced that until November 2nd, 2010, families wishing to add to qualifying two-line family plans can get up to three lines added for free. This will eliminate the monthly voice and messaging charges for the three lines until 2012. Additional fees and taxes are applicable, including a $1.41 per line/month regulatory programs fee (not to mention activation fees). This sounds like a great deal for those families wanting to stay connected. Data charges are separate however, and those charges will add up if parents spring for those new Windows or Android smartphones.

T-Mobile Users Upgrading Phones Face Policy Change

Posted by Brad Wasson in "Windows Phone Mobile Operators" @ 03:00 PM

http://www.tmonews.com/2010/06/new-...oming-july-1st/

"Beginning July 1st, customers that upgrade through T-Mobile Customer Care will be required to pay for their handset upgrades at the time of purchase by credit or debit card instead of billing the charges to their T-Mobile account. EIP customers will be required to pay the first installment only in addition to the Upgrade fee and shipping costs. As for non-EIP customers, T-Mobile will require you to pay the full payment. Customers who want to pay by check or cash will be required to visit their local T-Mobile store to complete their transaction. Government and Business accounts are exempt from this policy change."

TmoNews has reported that, starting July 1st, T-Mobile customers that want to upgrade their phones are facing some new policies. These new policies seemed aimed at ensuring T-mobile gets payment up-front, which, I suppose, is hard to blame them for. If you want more details, a quick trip over to the T-Mobile Support site's "Phone and device upgrade FAQs" page should clarify things.

HTC HD2 is One Hot Windows Phone...Literally!

Posted by Jason Dunn in "HTC Windows Phones" @ 11:30 PM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1CI8S-1508

[Language Warning on the Video Above]

The last thing you'd expect from your phone for it to get so hot it melts, but that seems to be exactly what happened here - it's hard to say for sure, but looking at the side profiles of the HD2 in this video, it looks like the battery is expanded, a sure fire indication of a serious problem. The guy who shot this video has now put the HD2 up for auction on eBay, claiming that because this is the only HD2 in the world that "has caught on fire" it's "gonna be a priceless item". Given the number of mobile phones in use every day in the world, it's impressive that we don't see more problems with defects like this. I know one thing is for certain: if my HD2 ever starts to feel hot, I think I'll place it down and take a big step back...

On June 19, T-Mobile is having the father of all father's day sales. Every single phone in stock will be free that day, free as in beer. If you've been eyeing the HD2 or anything else in T-Mobile's arsenal, mark that Saturday on your calendar!

T-Mobile HD2 Update Resurfaces

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "HTC Windows Phones" @ 12:00 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2010/05/t-mo...te-back-online/

Come and get it folks! If you're not among the lucky ones to get the update at first bite, T-Mobile has re-upped the ROM update, hopefully after increasing their server bandwidth. Whether it actually fixes anything is a little debatable from the feedback (some report its better, others don't), but let us know if you try it out.

T-Mobile BOGO Deal Extended, Sorta Includes HD2

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Windows Phone Mobile Operators" @ 06:30 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2010/05/t-mo...ough-june-20th/

"T-Mobile is certainly looking to take this Smartphone BOGO and ride it all the way to the bank. They have again extended the offer, this time through June 20th. Currently, the Garminfone and HTC HD2 are only available as the first phone and cannot be used as the free device."

If you and someone else are thinking of switching to T-mobile and one of you wants an HD2, it looks like the other can score a free phone through June 20th that they'd otherwise have to pay for. Too bad you can't get 2 HD2s for the price of 1!

Trade in Your iPhone for a HTC HD2

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Windows Phone News" @ 12:30 PM

http://www.wmexperts.com/t-mobile-i...rts+(WMExperts)

"T-Mobile apparently has a trade-in program that may help those who can't decide what to do with that old iPhone. From April 1 through May 19, you can trade in an iPhone for up to $350 credit towards a new HTC HD2. Participating T-Mobile dealers will be authorized to give a minimum of $100 credit (max $350) to those trading in their iPhones. The iPhone must be functional and in working condition; screen not broken, damaged or leaking; and no liquid damage or corrosion present. According to the details, activation is not required with the credit being applied to the fully priced HD2."

If you're looking to ditch an old and dusty iPhone for some HD2 goodness at T-mobile (assuming they have some HD2s in stock), you're in luck - the Trade-in program is live!

No More Messing Around: Get A HD2 Today from T-Mobile

Posted by Jon Westfall in "HTC Windows Phones" @ 05:12 AM

http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones...l-phone=HTC-HD2

"Download books, TV, movies and more with the fastest processor speed available. Get the largest touch screen on the market, and you'll forget it's a smartphone. A data service is required with this phone."

If you're looking to score an HD2, now's your chance to do so. $449 without contract, $199 with. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a tough decision to make ;-)

UPDATE: And boom, just like that, it's sold out at all retail stores!

T-Mobile's Release of the HD2 is So Close!

Posted by Jon Westfall in "HTC Windows Phones" @ 04:30 PM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/08/...bile-usa-wilds/

"T-Mobile has the release honors and is now showing the HD2 as "coming soon" in its phone inventory. We've also got the first "in the wild" shots courtesy of TmoNews showing that big Blockbuster shortcut linked front and center for downloading On Demand movies directly to the device. Still no firm price or date but $199.99 on contract ($449.99 unlocked) sometime around 24 March sounds about right"

Photo Courtesy of TmoNews, and a piece by Engadget to as well, are the latest proof that the HD2 is about to drop on T-Mobile USA. Start preparing your credit card or bank account now...

HTC HD2 Gets T-Mobile Leaked Release Date

Posted by Jon Westfall in "HTC Windows Phones" @ 06:30 AM

http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010...mobile-surface/

"One of our ninjas just dropped some tantalizing and blurry details for us to feast on. We've been informed that T-Mobile will be releasing the Motorola CLIQ XT on March 10th, the HTC HD2 (listed as "Dark Handset" on the screen capture) is confirmed on March 24th, and a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 netbook, complete with T-Mobile broadband access, on the 24th as well."

While technically a rumor since we haven't had an official announcement yet (Come on T-Mo...!), this looks pretty solid as we've seen other references to the HD2 as the "Dark" handset. I predict come March 24 I'll be visiting a T-Mobile store!

T-Mobile Launches Official HTC HD2 Page

Posted by Eriq Cook in "Windows Phone News" @ 05:00 PM

http://www.sticktogether.com/htchd2/

While no specific date has been officially announced yet, T-Mobile has launched a new web page for the highly anticipated HD2 with general information and mailing list sign up. This is obviously the teaser that T-Mobile posted on their twitter page last week. Judging by T-Mobile's history (as a 6 year customer), I suspect we're about a month away of release.

As of now, the HD2 is the only Windows Mobile device upgradable to Windows Phone 7. Do you plan on getting the HD2 when it's released? While I personally don't plan to (due to lack of physical keyboard), I know it'll be an awesome device nonetheless!

HD2 Gets Better Specs for T-Mobile USA

Posted by Jon Westfall in "HTC Windows Phones" @ 08:30 AM

http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/24/...ost-for-the-us/

"Looks like the HTC HD2 is getting a little spec bump on its way to our fair shores: the official spec page lists the version bound for T-Mobile US with 1GB of ROM and 576 of RAM, a boost over the international edition's 512 and 448MB. What's more, it looks like a bigger 16GB microSD card will come in the box, a big jump over the 2GB stick currently bundled overseas."

Over the weekend Engadget and others repoted that the version of the HD2 that is slated for T-Mobile will get slightly better stats than the first version available worldwide. My HD2 Saving Fund is strong in both amount and desire - how about yours?

Posted by Jon Westfall in "HTC Windows Phones" @ 11:30 AM

http://www.sticktogether.com/htchd2/

"T-Mobile USA, Inc. and HTC today announced that HTC HD2ä is expected to be available for the first time in the U.S. exclusively from T-Mobile USA this spring. With its industry-leading, high-resolution, 4.3-inch capacitive touch display and high-powered features, the ultrathin HTC HD2 phone delivers content in a sharper, brighter and richer way. The HTC HD2 comes equipped with the 1GHz SnapdragonTM by Qualcomm mobile processor and utilizes T-Mobile's high-speed 3G network for a fast mobile data experience. "T-Mobile and HTC have a long history of partnering to deliver innovative, cutting-edge products to T-Mobile customers," said George Harrison, vice president, marketing product innovation, T-Mobile USA. Later this spring the HTC HD2 will be coming to those on T-Mobile USA. It's a beautiful machine, so those looking to upgrade may want to fill out the form on T-Mobile's site for updates!

US Carriers: Make Multiple SIMs a Reality!

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 03:30 PM

http://www.mobilityminded.com/5568/...ne-phone-number

"These days, most of us use Bluetooth enabled car kits, and it is not necessary to have a second SIM card for safe vehicle use anymore. However ... many people have multiple phones. Smartphones are now quite prevalent, but sometimes you don't want to carry your most complicated phone everywhere you go. For instance, I like to carry a smaller phone on me during the weekends while on the road with my kids. The hassle now is to get my SIM card out of one phone and place it in the other. And we all know how frustrating it can be to do so. It would be so much easier to have a duplicate SIM card already placed in my second phone..."

Johan van Mierlo (and others, including myself) have had ENOUGH with the 1 SIM per number draconian rule of US carriers. It would be relatively easy for carriers to allow more than one SIM per number, which would be great for those of us with multiple devices that hate swapping SIMs in and out all the time. Mobility Minded is running a poll right now on the issue, and if you're wanting a second SIM to soothe swapping, I'd encourage you to vote!

Easily Free Your SIM From a T-Mobile Touch Pro 2

Posted by Jon Westfall in "HTC Windows Phones" @ 12:30 PM

I really like a lot of things about my T-Mobile Touch Pro 2. However one thing I detest is the SIM card slot. The provided method you are asked to use (pressing down on a small silver latch and then sliding the card out) simply doesn't work. I've tried jamming the stylus under it, on it, around it, and that isn't the best solution either. Finally this morning I found a method that works very well, is easy to do, requires very little outside funding, and is safe: A Paperclip! Bent up paperclip to be precise, with a small loop that can lift the SIM card up just enough to slide it out. Check out the video below for my simple fix, and be free to swap SIMs like a maniac (a.k.a. like me).

T-Mobile Windows Mobile 6.5 Upgrades In Early January?

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Windows Phone News" @ 07:30 AM

http://www.tmonews.com/2009/12/t-mo...6-5-next-month/

"The good news is that this isn't the 400th article this month talking about a potential Sprint/T-Mobile merger. The better news is that this rumor has a stronger chance of coming true than a Sprint/T-Mobile merger. One of my trusty ninjas hit me up tonight with information claiming that a Windows Mobile 6.5 update will see the light of day for the TouchPro2 and Dash 3G beginning January 6th, 2010"

It's a rumor reported by TMoNews, to be sure, however hopefully it's somewhat accurate. I mean when else will T-Mo finally get around to popping out the 6.5 updates for these two phones anyway? (Actually, if past track record is any indication, January 6th 2011 is probably just as likely). Hopefully though within a month us loyal T-mo users will have an official 6.5 upgrade - you know, the OS that was released on October 6 -- for those devices released in early and mid summer!

Touch Pro 2 Reviewed by Engadget

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 01:30 PM

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/...ch-pro2-review/

"That's why droves of subscribers on virtually every carrier are on the edge of their seats awaiting the Touch Pro2's release. Whether you love, hate, or feel nothing but pure, unadulterated ambivalence toward Windows Mobile, it's hard to argue that the Pro2 isn't a gorgeous smartphone at a distance, and T-Mobile USA's gently-tweaked version is no exception."

Engadget has a nice write-up on the Touch Pro 2, including more pictures like the one above. Overall it isn't a bad looking device, and it's taking a lot of control for me not to buy one. However with 2 phones already purchased this summer, I think I should hold off for awhile!

T-Mobile USA Announces HTC Touch Pro2 Coming August 12th

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Pocket PC News" @ 02:22 PM

http://www.businesswire.com/portal/...495&newsLang=en

"T-Mobile USA, Inc., and HTC Corp. today announced the upcoming availability of the HTC Touch Pro2TM, a powerful, stylish device with an intuitive touch screen and user interface that enables customers to simplify their communication and mobile Internet experience while staying connected, informed and in control of work and life. The device will be available in a mocha finish to T-Mobile customers beginning Aug. 12.

Enabled for T-Mobile's expanding high-speed 3G network and Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g), the HTC Touch Pro2 offers fast data delivery and an enhanced Web-browsing experience along with popular features such as built-in GPS and location-based services. Featuring a 3.6-inch color WVGA touchscreen that slides back and tilts up to reveal a full-QWERTY keyboard, the screen is perfectly positioned for reading and creating e-mail, browsing the Web, using applications, and playing videos and games. A 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus also provides customers with an easy way to capture and share high-quality images and video as well as view that content on the crisp display."

I've had a chance to use the Touch Pro2 over the past week, and I've got to say, this is one impressive device. T-Mobile is the first US-based carrier to release this uber-device, but they won't be the last. I'm not sure how I feel about the "mocha" colouring on this though. Any of you T-Mobile users plan on picking this up?

Touch Pro2 For T-Mo in August!

Posted by Jon Westfall in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 10:30 AM

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/...-august-launch/

"We'd been holding out hope that T-Mobile's version of the HTC Touch Pro2 would materialize for customers in the month of July, but that's looking less and less likely now that we have some awfully real-looking documentation that claims otherwise. TmoNews has nabbed some sort of slide suggesting that HTC's latest AWS-equipped superphone won't hit retail until August 12"

Are you a "successful professional who tend[s] to be [an] early adopter and place[s] high value on having top-of-the-line products"? Are you also a "t-mobile customer frustrated that 3G Windows Mobile phones are only now starting to roll out, when AT&T has had them for years?". Then the Touch Pro2 may be your saving grace. It looks pretty good - I'm thinking of having a Mass Jon Firesale of Pocket PCs to finance one of these (And perhaps a MyTouch as well, for a good ole' fashion Android vs. WinMo Showdown!).
