Win an LG Quantum Windows Phone 7

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Windows Phone Events" @ 08:30 AM

I have an AT&T-branded LG Quantum Windows Phone 7 to give away thanks to the generous people at LG, and I'm giving it away in a YouTube contest. You can check out the video above, but in order to enter the contest, you'll need to post your comment on the YouTube video page (along with subscribing to our YouTube channel and marking the video as a favourite). The phone is SIM-unlocked, but the contest is restricted to people in the USA and Canada. Apologies rest-of-world, but it's too expensive to ship things overseas. The winner will be randomly selected via Random.org when the number of entries reaches a minimum of 500 entries. Good luck to everyone who enters!

AT&T's Update For Quantum And Focus Now Updated To Scheduling

Posted by Richard Chao in "Windows Phone News" @ 10:42 PM

http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_...ows-phones.aspx

"I'm happy to report that two Windows Phones sold by AT&T are a big step closer to getting updates."

Eric Hautala has just posted on the Windows Team blog stating the February and March (NoDo) updates for AT&T's LG Quantum and Samsung Focus are ready. The devices have now been upgraded to "Scheduling." Per the Where's my phone update page, 'Scheduling' means: "Microsoft is scheduling the update for delivery. This phase typically lasts 10 business days or less."

Unfortunately, the HTC Surround is still in the testing phase and has been cited to require more work.

This is my review video of the LG Quantum (here's my unboxing video), a Windows Phone 7 device offered in the USA by AT&T and in Canada from Bell. LQ Quantum Reviewed

Posted by Adan Galvan in "Windows Phone News" @ 06:00 AM

http://www.intomobile.com/2010/12/1...-windows-phone/

"We've reviewed a flurry of Windows phones already, like the Optimus 7, the HTC Surround, and the Samsung Focus, but believe it or not there's still a few we have yet to check out. One such example is the LG Quantum, which breaks the trend of pure touchscreen slates in the Windows Phone 7 launch lineup. It's a major bonus to have some differentiation in a selection of samey Windows phones, but it also means there's a lot of pressure on the Quantum to deliver a strong messaging experience."

Unfortunately in this competitive market the LG Quantum has been largely overlooked. This is especially true here in the US where the Samsung Focus, which is also offered through AT&T, is often considered the phone of choice. However, if you looking for a hardware keyboard the LQ Quantum is the only way to go (since the Dell Venue is still MIA). Check out the review and video by following the link below!

LG Quantum in the House: And You Can Win One!

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Windows Phone Talk" @ 10:19 PM

Yesterday I posted about my complete lack of success in trying to buy a Samsung Focus from my local wireless carrier, Rogers Wireless. It seems mind-boggling that I can't buy one of these phones from my carrier yet, and it's frustrating to be running a Windows Phone site without access to a modern Windows Phone, but an unexpected source has come to my rescue: LG's PR firm in South Korea has sent me two LG Quantums! Talk about getting it directly from the source - awesome!

I'll be posting an unboxing video early next week, but as you've noticed, there are two. And you know what that means: contest give away time! Stay tuned for details, but one lucky Windows Phone Thoughts reader will get one of these phones. Happy Thanksgiving to all of our readers from the USA!

AT&T Offering A Two For One Holiday Deal

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "Windows Phone Mobile Operators" @ 06:00 PM

http://windowsteamblog.com/windows_...deal-alert.aspx

"AT&T just sweetened the pot a bit for the holiday shopping season with the announcement of a buy one get one free deal for the HTC Surround, LG Quantum and Samsung Focus. To take advantage of this offer head down to your local AT&T retail store, sign up for a two-year contract and you and a friend will have a couple of the coolest phones of the season."

I've got mixed feelings about this - on the one hand this sounds like a great deal, but on the other hand, AT&T is trying to clear stock already? Really? But if you're interested, dropping by an AT&T store and have a look.

Windows Phone 7 Profile: the LG Quantum

Posted by Jason Dunn in "LG Windows Phones" @ 12:06 PM

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/...one/glance.aspx

"The LG Quantum offers a horizontal QWERTY keypad designed for productivity. The phone also includes DLNA multimedia sharing, an augmented reality application and voice recognition."

The LG Quantum is a traditional-looking Windows Phone 7 device; LG didn't go crazy with this design, but it looks solid and functional. It will be available from AT&T for $199 (presumably a contract price). The keyboard looks large and functional, though that's always something that needs to be experienced in person to get a feel for.
