Making Sense For WP7

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "HTC Windows Phones" @ 06:00 PM

http://blogs.forbes.com/elizabethwo...ne-7-over-time/

"One of the great debates surrounding Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system focuses on whether the design guidelines the company set for its manufacturer partners allow for adequate expression. How can companies like Samsung, LG and Dell keep their Windows Phone 7 (WP7) handsets looking cool and different when Microsoft specifies the basic button layout, display resolution and user interface framework these companies should use?"

HTC is hoping to bring it's Sense UI to WP7 - it's one way to differentiate its WP7 phones from everyone else's. They've even begun an ambitious project to bring Windows Live type services to all their Sense enabled phones across different OS types (here and here for reference), starting with Android. I'm not sure if this isn't really just wishful thinking on their part, given the determined way Microsoft has been protecting the consistent user interaction and performance that WP7 offers across the board. But what do you guys think? Would bringing the full Sense experience to WP7 make sense (sorry for the pun)?

Pocket-Lint Interviews HTC's Drew Bamford

Posted by Nurhisham Hussein in "Windows Phone Articles & Resources" @ 08:30 PM

http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/369...mford-interview

"[Drew] Bamford, is the man responsible for making the 20 million HTC handsets sold this year easy to use. Director of User Experience for the Taiwanese company, Bamford's job is all about making HTC's Sense software for the company's dozens of phones around the globe work, and work well...Rather than focus on the physical hardware of the phone like Scott Croyle at One & Co , Bamford's job is all about HTC Sense."

Pocket-Lint has been pretty busy - and that's good for us. After talking to Horace Luke on HTC's hardware design, they bring us Drew Bamford, who's in charge of HTC Sense. Nothing earth shattering, but a good read nonetheless about the thought process that goes into the design of Sense.

HTC is Doing Amazing Things with Sense on Windows Phone 7

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Windows Phone Software" @ 11:01 AM

"Barely 24 hours after HTC unveiled two new Android handsets, a confidential video has emerged which shows the HTC Sense UI running on Windows Phone 7. HTC employees swerved Windows Phone 7 related questions at a media event held in London yesterday. The company said it was confident that when HTC Windows Phone 7 devices were released that consumers would know it was a HTC device. Company officials declined to comment on how Sense would work on the upcoming devices. Today is a new day though and a video has leaked that appears to show the Sense UI running in Windows Phone 7."

It would be easy to have doubts about how committed HTC was to Windows Phone 7 after it was announced that Microsoft would be locking down the UI and HTC's work on Sense was pretty much put down the drain...but check out the videos above, and I think you'll agree that HTC is bringing some SERIOUS game to Windows Phone 7 - and they're not shy about using the high-end hardware that's part of the minimum spec for all Windows Phone 7 devices. I can't wait!

HTC Touch HD2 Deep Dive Software Walk-Through

Posted by Jason Dunn in "HTC Windows Phones" @ 02:00 PM

The HTC HD2 [affiliate] is a device worthy of much coverage - it's really a ground-breaking Windows Mobile device, and a big part of that is the software that HTC has put such huge effort into creating. This is a two-part video walk-through of the HTC "secret sauce": HTC Sense, a.k.a. TouchFlo 3D. The second video is after the break - enjoy, and let me know if you have any questions about the device or the software. Read more...

pocketnow HTC HD2 Sense UI Video Tour

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Pocket PC Software" @ 04:22 PM

A couple of things jumped out at me as I watched this video: first, that the Snapdragon processor/chipset of the HD2 allows Windows Mobile to finally be as responsive as the iPhone - and in fact, I'd argue it's even more responsive. HTC has continued to evolve TouchFlo 3D - seeminly now officially re-named to HTC Sense - and with this new release they've gone deeper into the guts of Windows Mobile and replaced even more than previous devices. You can finally create new calendar appointments in a finger-friendly way, and HTC Sense has been expanded in terms of built-in functionality; there's now a Twitter client, and the photo viewing software taps directly into Facebook photo albums and allows you to browse them as if they were local to your device. The rich, deep functionality of HTC Sense and the associated apps that HTC has created is truly impressive.

The question is, will HTC release this new version of HTC Sense for the Diamond2 and Touch Pro2 via a future ROM update? Or will they continue to use HTC Sense as a "buy a new device to get the new software" ploy that alienates HTC customers? Only time will tell...

Engadget's HTC HD2 Eye Candy

Posted by Darius Wey in "Pocket PC Hardware" @ 10:00 AM

"Sure, you've seen this guy in action in earlier videos... but it's still nice to get a look at this monster up close. We're still blown away by the fact that this is a Windows Mobile 6.5 device -- the skinning job that HTC has done here is nothing short of a miracle."

HTC's Sense-equipped HD2 is one gorgeous Windows Mobile 6.5 device, and Engadget has the eye candy to back it up. Scoot over there and check it out. Anyone planning on picking one up?
