"Quanta Computer is likely to form a strategic alliance with Taiwan-based smart handheld-device solutions provider E-Ten Information Systems, to jointly develop and manufacture smartphones and PDA phones, the Chinese-language Commercial Times reported today. The two companies are aiming to boost their presence in the global smart handheld-device market by optimizing E-Ten's capability in the development of Windows Mobile-based solutions and Quanta's own handset manufacturing capability, the paper said. E-Ten alone is expected to ship about 100,000-200,000 PDA handsets in 2006, the paper added."

Both E-TEN and Quanta make some great devices. You might recognise the former when you hear of the M600 and G500, and the latter when you hear of the O2 Xda Atom and the HP iPAQ rw6800 series. I'll be interested to see what the two combined can cook up in the years ahead, if indeed they do form an alliance. More people are starting to appreciate this idea of convergence, so it'll be up to top manufacturers such as the aforementioned, and even HTC, to impress us with something truly innovative.
