10 Years On: "The Road Ahead"

"Love him or loathe him, there's no denying the achievements of William Henry Gates III. You may not agree with Microsoft's business practices but it's questionable that you would be sat here reading this today without the vision and sheer determination of one bespeckled über-geek from Seattle. Gates transformed himself from Harvard drop-out to World's Richest Man within two short decades, witnessing the death of the traditional mainframe and minicomputers and the birth of the Personal Computer (PC)."

For some historic off topic reading, how about a spin through the past 10 years of computing? Why? Well, it's been ten years since Bill Gates wrote a book about his vision of where computing was going, called "The Road Ahead". Yogi Berra once said, "It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future." Overall Bill comes out pretty well, with a good number of hits and few misses. The Bit-Techs article is good recap of where we've been and where we might be going in IT.
