Profits And Revenues At Mobile Division Surge

"Microsoft's mobile and embedded devices unit, which includes software for handhelds and cell phones, posted a narrow $4 million loss, compared with the $110 million loss a year ago. Revenue increased to $91 million from $63 million a year ago."

The top chart shows revenues, which are up in the second quarter just over 44%. The division came very close to breaking even, losing $4 million compared with $110 million in the same quarter last year. So far this year (Microsoft's year is July 04-June 05) the division has sold $160 million with a net loss of $24 million.

Note that this is not just Pocket PC and Smartphone. This includes revenues from sales of Windows CE to embedded device/system developers and I think it also includes the Streets & Trips group, which used to be part of MSN several years ago. It is still good news, but it is impossible to see from the data given what sales and profits are from just what you and I consider the Windows Mobile product line.
