Dell X50 Details Emerge on FCC Website

Well, Duncan's struck gold on the FCC website again. This time he's panned out six Dell X50 documents. There are detailed Radio Frequency Test reports and various letters and declarations, though the External Photos, Internal Photos, Test Setup Photos and User Manual are all embargoed untill September the 24th 2004. Interesting date that. Not far away at all. The manager from High Tech Computer Corp actually mentions in a letter, why it is that we can access all this information before then:

"It is our understanding that all measurement test reports, FCC ID label format and correspondent during certification review process cannot be granted as confidential documents and those information will be available for public review once the grant of equipment authorization is issued."

Good old FCC. :D The documentation tells us that two versions of the X50 were tested, one with Bluetooth and one with both Bluetooth and WiFi. We posted about the recent X50 rumours, which suggest that the WiFi type is actually 802.11g. Hmmm, we'll see about that. The other rumoured specs include a 3.7-inch VGA screen, a 624MHz processor, 128MB RAM, 64MB ROM, a removable battery, a CompactFlash and SD card slot and of course Bluetooth. If it's true, then it all looks very impressive. My Trusty Dell X5 has served me well over the years and this looks like it will be a worthy successor. Duncan's not actually updated his very useful VGA device comparison chart to include the X50, but I'm sure it will happen soon. Mmmmmmmm, VGA!

Update: Ed from Brighthand has obtained a picture of the front of the unit without the case, as well as a picture of the back of the unit. The shape looks to be different from the X5 or X30. Another details is it looks like there will be three different models, as Jason mentioned. Oh and Duncan's updated his handy chart with the known x50 details. :way to go:
