Windows Phone Thoughts: New Server, Here We Come!

Frequent Pocket PC Thoughts visitors will know that sometimes, our site just isn't on the grid. :oops: We have anywhere from one to six service restarts a day due to high load. The simple fact is that our current hardware (Celeron 1.3 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 40 GB EIDE HD) is overloaded. We've implemented all sorts of tweaks, including database caching systems that we've built from scratch, but the end result is the same: we don't have the raw power we need to achieve stability.

We've needed to do this for a long time, and it's finally happening: we're moving to a new server at Rackshack, a monster Dell box with 2 GB of RAM, twin 73 GB SCSI hard drives in a RAID array, and dual 2 Ghz Xeon processors. Yeah baby, yeah! :rock on dude!: I've been playing around with a copy of this site on the new server, and the speed is blazing fast, but I'm most excited about simply having stable uptime. :-)

We're making the move tonight, so depending on how fast the DNS records update, it may take a couple of days for everything to move over properly. Once we start to make the move, the forums will be locked down so the databases can be moved over.
