MICROS Systems, Inc. is a leading provider of IT solutions for the hospitality industry and they have just released the RES 3000 Version 1.0 Mobile MICROS Point-of-Sale. According to the company, the RES 3000 Mobile MICROS is the most effective and user friendly mobile wireless POS solution on the market today...integrating many of the outstanding POS features of the RES 3000 PC Workstation into a robust handheld touchscreen unit, facilitating easy server training and use. The unit is based on the Symbol 2846 Pocket PC operating on an 802.11b network. You can also just load the software on standard Pocket PCs with WiFi access.

We've seen several solutions like this in the past, but as far as I know they were proprietary. I believe this is the first solution that integrates with industry standard software. Micro's software is in over 130,000 restaurants, casinos, motels and hotels in 130 countries
